Under Seige - Night #1

This is our first night and hopefully our last. We are expected to work a 17 hour shift as we "shadow" both day and night crews. At least we will be able to watch the Superbowl before returning to work at 9:00P Sunday evening. Negotiations are progressing and the union has agreed to a 24 hour continuance.

As you can see from the photo below, we are trying to maintain good spirits throughout this adventure. If tonight's diner is representative of future meals, several of us will be shedding pounds.

Manhattan Beach Polliwog Park

We took our son to the park on January 25 only to find that the pond flooded over, submerging the benches and part of the playground. Our area has only received about 1 or 2" of rain in recent days, so we suspect either fowl play or park staff daze as the culprit.
The ducks did not seem to mind - neither did my son.

California Academy of Sciences (12.23.08)

On December 23 my family and my parents decided to visit the recently re-opended California Acadamy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park. I figured that crowds would be minimal since most folks would likely be visiting Union Square Xmas decoration browsing and last minute shopping - I was very wrong. The Academy was filled to capacity when we arrived and the wait (for members) was over one hour long. Here's a photo from the roof garden. It had rained the night before and the lighting and cloud patterns were near perfect.
